Syndrome WPW

Disease. Curse. Italy. Heavy metal. Bontempi. Destructive introvert, urban epileptic: Syndrome WPW's electronic latopless show includes tragedy, neurosis and bullets.

Syndrome WPW comes from Lausanne, Switzerland, and has been performing since 2004 in Switzerland, France, Japan, USA, Canada, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany.   Syndrome WPW's first album, Marek Marek's Murder, has been released by Midinette Records in October 2008. It was mixed by Shapemod, producer from Berlin and also engineer for Peaches and Planningtorock. It contains 14 tracks of electronic analog punk-rock, full of aggressiveness, with a strong affinity for westerns and heavy metal.
When performing on stage Syndrome WPW offers a similar energy: far removed from traditional laptop electro live performances, his show looks like nothing else. The audience gets punched in the face, and at the end of the performance the stage is nothing but a heap of ruins.

Syndrome WPW's CD Marek Marek's Murder (Midinette Records) is available
* Get it from any good record shop (Distr: Namskeio/CH) * Worldwide mail order @ Midinette Rec. shop * Digital release available on iTunes and Juno

Charlie Khan & the Bullfrog Chorus

Who, what, and why is Charlie Khan? Musician, wordsmith, malefactor, man of mystery, and potential psychopath, he rules over a peculiar little world of his own twisted design, crammed full of jaunty tunes, loud noises, breathless rants and jet-black humour.
Whatever the truth about Charlie Khan may be, he certainly knows how to entertain and terrify in equal measure. Singing demented ditties about death, war, disease, money, injustice, love, hate, bizarre sexual practices and transsexuality, he turns his mind to anything he sees fit to apply his wit, and mocks it mercilessly. His acerbic turn of phrase is underpinned by a gloriously ramshackle, yet idiosyncratically tuneful, cacophony of decrepit keyboards, clattering percussion and booming double-bass.

Kelly Teh

Kelly Teh is a Malaysian born New Media artist who is currently based in London. Teh’s creative work began in experimental music and sound art, which often incorporated visualization in sound. However, her professional role in the Broadcast industry has inspired her to incorporate other media elements into her sound work. Kelly’s recent work has started to evolve into the direction of participation, collaboration and interaction. This is due to her interest in what she has dubbed as ‘stage sharing’, where every audience member plays a unique role on the stage. For tonight’s performance, Kelly will be joined by bassist and producer Shaun Cronin. He’s also a published writer with a number of articles in print / online and is currently pitching a music-influenced drama-comedy TV serial to networks & production companies as well as writing a film script.

Sseeaann Rrooee

Sean Roe (a.k.a Sseeaann Rrooee) is a Multimedia artist and Musician who studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College and at Middlesex University in London. He has exhibited and performed in the UK, Europe and Japan, and has also lectured and conducted workshops in Colleges, Galleries and Art Spaces. While living in Japan between 2006-2011, he produced the JunKroom multi-disciplinary live event in Kyoto. On returning to the UK, he restarted the JunKroom event in London. When performing solo he plays LP records on stylus free turntables using only paper to carry the sound from the grooves of the record to the speakers. The sounds coaxed from the vinyl surfaces are amplified using microphones and contact mics attached to to the paper itself. The performances are (generally) quite slow contemplative and intimate, an exploration of pure sound - with minimal use of processing and effects. Sean is also a member of Kyoto Based Michael Jackson sampling Ambient Drone Duo amalls の skcaj.

Matt Temple (Matsuli Music)

Matt Temple has been promoting and playing eclectic sounds since the early 1980s. He has produced and promoted concerts with the likes of Amampondo, Malombo Jazz, Thomas Mapfumo and Sipho Mabuse and played with the afro-punk band Four Horsemen. He now run Matsuli Music, a reissue label dedicated to lost South African afro-jazz recordings. His DJ-sets cover a wide range of influences from rockabilly to afro-psychedic sounds and beyond.

Many thanks to all the performers for putting on a brilliant show at the last JunKroom event in Kyoto.

So we have 25 000 yen to give to ゆめ風基金(Yume-kaze fund) and 25000 yen to give to JVC Thank you everybody for contributing !!

The Final JunKroom Event in KYOTO on 22nd April 2011 @ Urbanguild in Kyoto

THE FINAL JUNKROOM EVENT!!!
AT URBANGUILD in KYOTO

22nd APRIL 2011

After producing and being involved in about 30 show in the last 4 years or so.... The JunKroom event in Kyoto finally comes to an end. I will be returning to England in the next few weeks after having lived in Kyoto for 5 years. Organizing and participating in these events has been an education for me- it’s helped me meet some of the most interesting performers in Kyoto. I hope in return, the event has contributed to the diverse cultural life of this city by acting as a forum for both local artists and those visiting from overseas. To all the performers who have contributed, and to all the visitors to the event, I’d like to say thank you for supporting JunKroom in Kyoto! And..... a huge THANK YOU to everyone at Urbanguild who have provided the perfect home to the event!

I will be restarting the JunKroom project in the UK, so.. to all the performers who have joined the event in Kyoto- there is an open invitation to come over and perform in England. Junkroom will become a bridge between Kyoto and London and will introduce the work of Japanese performers to audiences in the UK. I look forward to my new role supporting the work of all the friends I’ve made while I’ve been living in Kyoto.

For this last event I’ve decided that proceeds will be donated to charity to help the people in the NE of Japan who have been devastated by the Earthquake and Tsunami, as well as the problems with the Nuclear Power plant in Fukushima.

Mitsu Salmon & ryotaro USA/Japan

Alexander Rishaug is a sound artist and musician based in Oslo, Norway. His sound is melodic, melancholic and often quiet. Rishaug explores tones and textures through the use of electronics, field recordings, toys or simply just playing around with an instrument. Rishaug combines an intimate knowledge of his musical equipment with the curiousness of an amateur. Rishaug was one of the key figures in ARM, a improv collective with Arne Borgan and Are Mokkelbost (Single Unit). As a solo artist he has worked with: Elin Vister, Svarte Greiner, Lasse Marhaug, Marius Watz, Andreas Meland, Erich Berger, Ivar Grydeland, Ole Henrik Moe, Kari Rønnekleiv, Pekka Stokke and Tape.

Alexander Rishaug/

Phonophani (Espen Sommer Eide) was born in Oslo, Norway. Espen played music originally on percussion instruments, flutes and trumpet, before emphasising computer-generated sounds. He currently lives in Bergen, Norway where he is involved in the city's experimental music scene. Eide has released several solo albums as Phonophani, under the Rune Grammofon record label. Phonophani is multi-instrumentalist and digital electronics music, characterized by various manipulated live instruments integrated with pure electronic sounds. Espen Sommer Eide is the developer of the Concertinome, a custom made instrument combining the concertina accordion with the monome style keyboard and electronic air pressure sensors. Eide also records music with Alog, his musical partnership with fellow Norwegian musician, Dag-Are Haugan. In 2005, Alog was the winner of the Spellemannprisen, the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy. In 2007, Alog was nominated for a Spellemannprisen for the album Amateur.

Sigbjørn Apeland (born 1966) is a musician (organ, harmonium) and academic, well known for work that can be placed on the border between folk music, church music and improvisatory music.
After growing up in Sveio he graduated from The Rogaland Conservatory of Music (1988) specializing in the study and the performance of Church Music. He also studied ethnomusicology at the University of Bergen (1998), before doing a research fellowship at the Grieg Academy writing his dissertation on the Musical Life in the Norwegian Church as Cultural Practice (2005). fujita yosuke/音楽家広島県尾道市生まれ、香川県出身。
