Itaru, OKI
Born in Suma-Ku, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan on 10th September 1941. Oki Itaru was raised in a rich musical environment; his father was a player of the Shakuhachi (Japanese vertical flute) and his mother was a master of the Koto (Japanese horizontal harp) of the Ikuta School. He started to play the trumpet in his high school brass band before playing in a Dixieland style band and then in a bop band. In the late 1960’s, the trumpeter began playing free jazz. He changed his place of performance from Kansai (a western area of Japan) to Tokyo in 1965. After improving his skill in many groups, he joined an experimental unit “ESSG” of Togashi Masahiko and Sato Masahiko. Oki made his first tour to Europe with the ESSG in 1969. After being back from Europe, he formed the Oki Itaru Trio, which later grew into a quartet. In June 1974, he moved to Paris, France. After living in Lyon for a while, he moved back to Paris in December 1999. Until the present, Oki has continually performed at concerts and festivals in France and various other countries in Europe.

Titan No Kai live at Urbanguild 17th October

Not to be missed Dance Mavericks (I'm barely able to use this word now... thanks Sarah and John!) Titan No Kai will be performing at Urbanguild on the 17th October. Their last performance at Junkroom vol 6 (at the same venue) was like an inversion of a stage invasion - lots of screaming shouting dance improvisation music- Like being in the middle of a Shuji Terayama production (!?) in the 70's.

So.. If you're partial to a bit of "Dooitsu Hyo gen Shu gi" (as described by Chikako!) and an evening of Dance and Musical Mayhem- then head down to Urbanguild for this event.

JANA WINDEREN researches the hidden depths of the sea with the latest technology; her work reveals the complexity and strangeness of the unseen world beneath. The audio topography of the oceans and the depth of glacier cravasses is brought to the surface. She is occupied with finding sound from unseen sources of sound, like blind field recording. Her most recent sound works include "Submerge" (2008), for Fargfäbriken Norr in Sweden, based on hydrophone recordings in the local lake, "freq_out 7" curated by CM von Hausswollf at the Happy New Ears festival in Belgium (2008), "Rainbow Audio Transformation" (2008) at Extra City in Antwerp, Belgium and the 6 channel sound installation "+4°C - from Folgefonna to the North Sea" (2007) at Sleppet during the centenary of Edvard Greig, "Greig07" in Norway. Future projects includes an album released through Touch based on hydrophone recordings from the Icefjord Kangia by Ilulissat in Greenland, "Voices from the Deep" in collaboration with Chris Watson. Recently BBC Radio 4 followed Jana on her recording trip to the Barents Sea for the radio series "World on the Move".

ALOG
Since forming in 1997 Alog have been among Norway’s leading performers of experimental electronic music. They are mainstays at Rune Grammofon and have been with the label since their debut album ”Red Shift Swing” was released in 1999. Already a mature and original collection, their sound has since been developed through their second album, ”Duck-Rabbit” (2001), and almost perfected with their previous album ”Miniatures”, which also won them a Norwegian Grammy for best electronica release in 2005.
