Punk in Africa Screening and Club Night at SVA 15th &16th May 2014

Three chords, three countries, one revolution… PUNK IN AFRICA is the untold story of the multi-racial punk movement within the recent political and social upheavals experienced in three Southern African countries: South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

In these societies, the punk subculture represented a genuinely radical political impulse, playing out against a backdrop of intense political struggle, economic hardship and even civil war.

Syndrome WPW

Disease. Curse. Italy. Heavy metal. Bontempi. Destructive introvert, urban epileptic: Syndrome WPW's electronic latopless show includes tragedy, neurosis and bullets.

Syndrome WPW comes from Lausanne, Switzerland, and has been performing since 2004 in Switzerland, France, Japan, USA, Canada, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany.   Syndrome WPW's first album, Marek Marek's Murder, has been released by Midinette Records in October 2008. It was mixed by Shapemod, producer from Berlin and also engineer for Peaches and Planningtorock. It contains 14 tracks of electronic analog punk-rock, full of aggressiveness, with a strong affinity for westerns and heavy metal.
When performing on stage Syndrome WPW offers a similar energy: far removed from traditional laptop electro live performances, his show looks like nothing else. The audience gets punched in the face, and at the end of the performance the stage is nothing but a heap of ruins.

Charlie Khan & the Bullfrog Chorus

Who, what, and why is Charlie Khan? Musician, wordsmith, malefactor, man of mystery, and potential psychopath, he rules over a peculiar little world of his own twisted design, crammed full of jaunty tunes, loud noises, breathless rants and jet-black humour.
Whatever the truth about Charlie Khan may be, he certainly knows how to entertain and terrify in equal measure. Singing demented ditties about death, war, disease, money, injustice, love, hate, bizarre sexual practices and transsexuality, he turns his mind to anything he sees fit to apply his wit, and mocks it mercilessly. His acerbic turn of phrase is underpinned by a gloriously ramshackle, yet idiosyncratically tuneful, cacophony of decrepit keyboards, clattering percussion and booming double-bass.

Kelly Teh

Kelly Teh is a Malaysian born New Media artist who is currently based in London. Teh’s creative work began in experimental music and sound art, which often incorporated visualization in sound. However, her professional role in the Broadcast industry has inspired her to incorporate other media elements into her sound work. Kelly’s recent work has started to evolve into the direction of participation, collaboration and interaction. This is due to her interest in what she has dubbed as ‘stage sharing’, where every audience member plays a unique role on the stage. For tonight’s performance, Kelly will be joined by bassist and producer Shaun Cronin. He’s also a published writer with a number of articles in print / online and is currently pitching a music-influenced drama-comedy TV serial to networks & production companies as well as writing a film script.

So we have 25 000 yen to give to ゆめ風基金(Yume-kaze fund) and 25000 yen to give to JVC Thank you everybody for contributing !!

The Final JunKroom Event in KYOTO on 22nd April 2011 @ Urbanguild in Kyoto

THE FINAL JUNKROOM EVENT!!!
AT URBANGUILD in KYOTO

22nd APRIL 2011

After producing and being involved in about 30 show in the last 4 years or so.... The JunKroom event in Kyoto finally comes to an end. I will be returning to England in the next few weeks after having lived in Kyoto for 5 years. Organizing and participating in these events has been an education for me- it’s helped me meet some of the most interesting performers in Kyoto. I hope in return, the event has contributed to the diverse cultural life of this city by acting as a forum for both local artists and those visiting from overseas. To all the performers who have contributed, and to all the visitors to the event, I’d like to say thank you for supporting JunKroom in Kyoto! And..... a huge THANK YOU to everyone at Urbanguild who have provided the perfect home to the event!

I will be restarting the JunKroom project in the UK, so.. to all the performers who have joined the event in Kyoto- there is an open invitation to come over and perform in England. Junkroom will become a bridge between Kyoto and London and will introduce the work of Japanese performers to audiences in the UK. I look forward to my new role supporting the work of all the friends I’ve made while I’ve been living in Kyoto.

For this last event I’ve decided that proceeds will be donated to charity to help the people in the NE of Japan who have been devastated by the Earthquake and Tsunami, as well as the problems with the Nuclear Power plant in Fukushima.
